To maintain the correct voltage you will want wire them so the batteries are in parrallel. Never done it myself but is what you will need to do. Have you considered a battery with more amps??

Shouldn't be to hard to do...same as in a diesel truck...just hook in parallel as in pos to pos and neg to neg. I don't see it causing any problems other then may take a bit longer to charge the batteries, not really sure what amperage is output by the charging system.

Default two batteries

I have been looking through the manuals but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 800 Charging system is like 300W. Maybe OPT will chime in on that.

With two batteries I would be more concerned about the Voltage Regulator. imo

The key factor in all of it is the "Break Even" point. Having the engine turning enough RPMs that the Alternator can overcome the load on the system. The manual describes 1500 RPM lights off, 2000 RPM lights on.

ymmv.

500 is correct. i dont know if i would even attempt doing it w/ the electronics being so senative. these bikes arent designed to put alot of juice in the charging department, and like has been mentioned might overload it.
