My 1986 Fourtrax runs great except, sometimes it will die when put into gear as if I hit the kill switch. I put back ino to nuetral and it starts and runs fine. Again, put into gear and it is like hitting the kill switch. I can let it sit and the next time it goes into gear and runs fine for a while. I have checked most of the wiring and all checks out from what I can see. If anyone has any idea what this could be I would try anything.

Sometimes you just need to up the idle a little. The resistance of the clutch is to much for it to keep running at to low an idle......

 

I can be running at any speed and out of nowhere it will die as if I hit the kill switch. I put back into nuetral and it starts right up and idles until I shift into gear and it will die as if hitting the kill switch. I let it sit for e few minutes or a couple hours and it will run and shift into gear just fine for a while and then again it will die as if I hit the kill switch and we start all over again.

 

On my 250X the CDI unit (black box) became mechanically intermittent. It would run normally then stop. I discovered that pushing in on the 2 cables leading into the CDI would allow it to start again. When I got tired of that maneuver I replaced the CDI box and it has been fine.
