Help With Jetmoto 250
#1
Apologize in advance for the length of this post, but was hoping I might be able to get some help before heading out to find a mechanic. My oldest son's Jetmoto 250 (purchase through Raceway last Xmas) won't start. Has run great up until now the few times we've been able to get out this year...maybe 30 hours of easy riding total on it. Usually fires right up with a turn of the key, but last weekend after runing normally for a while it suddenly quit. Cranked it for about 30 seconds and got it going again, and ran it around with no noted problem, but as soon as he slowed down it would quit. After a couple of repeats with the same result (fine running high rpms but as soon as you slowed it stalled) the battery was dead. Read about clogged jets on this site, so took the carb apart this weekend and cleaned the two out (small one seemed like it might be clooged but hard to tell). Tried again and wouldn't catch at all. Removed the plug to check and I'm getting spark. Also loosened the screw to check overflow and got gas so that's okay. Don't know what else to do at this point. Sure would appreciate some feedback if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Mike

I will take some stabs!
Have you tried running it with out the air filter, it may be clogged so it suffers at low RPM?
I am amusing you have adjusted the idle air mixture (one on the side of the carb) up a bit to get it to idle?
Replace the Spark plug!
Replace the Battery, the stock are not too great. (may not be the prob but good to do anyway) Napa has them for $28.
That's all I can think of for now!

Just a followup: After about six hours and $230.00 with a mechanic yesterday, this is where we stand:
*Replaced the spark plug
*Adjusted mixing screw (1 1/2 turns from seated, and thank you to the lady from Raceway that got ahold of one of the Raceway mechanics after hours to get that info. for me)
*Removed carburetor, cleaned both jets again, inspected and replaced
*Checked compression (130 I believe he said)
*Removed air filter and tried to start....no appreciable difference.
*Verififed fuel flow through carb.
*Inspected all hoses....no cracks.
We got it started with the idle screw turned way up and the choke out about 3/4, but it takes alot more cranking than it used to before it catches. Sounded fine at high idle (a little more popping than normal) and you can then slowly push in the choke button and it stays running, but when you reduce the idle speed down it suddenly stalls at about 30% idle speed higher than optimal. Have to go through the same process to get it started again.
Mechanic gave up...only question he has is if anyone can tell me what the float level setting would be, or can point me to a diagram. Any other thoughts sure would be appreciated. Also wanted to know if the new battery I installed recently (EverStart 12v 9AH) from Walmart might be an issue, although I don't know why.
Thank you
Mike

I'm guessing carb problems. Try this shut off gas flow to carb , drain carb so no gas will enter cylinder. Spray staring fluid into air filter then start. If it starts and runs somewhat fine for a few seconds it's the carb that is the problem!

Customer Complaint: Does not idle well and extended cranking to start?
Is this the $80.00 carb
To set float level, of course its either too high or too low. Sometimes you just have to wing it! Does the mechanic that charged $230 to diagnose this have experience in small engines?
Need more info .
