Brakes on an '81 110 Honda ATC
#1
I've got a clymer manual, but it says I have to take half the trike apart just to get to the rear brakes (pedal, chain, axle etc etc). Is there anyway to get to the brakes without taking off the axle? I mean, the trike does come to a stop, but I wanted to adjust it and get it stopping better than it is right now. It looks to be adjusted as much as possible and has a bit of play in the brake cable.
Any help would be nice. Thanks.

if you just want to adjust the brake you can take the lever off the back of the drum and turn it back a couple of splines. to do this you will have to slaken off the cable and then re-tighten. if you want to re-place the shoes : take off the back wheel then the drum cover then the drum and you will be able to access the shoes.
if the drum is on it a long time you might have a job taking it off.

I figured out the adjustment, but I think I need to do more than just adjust (seems the cable has all the adjustment it can handle). Also, wanted to check the condition of and possibly replace the shoes if necessary.
On taking off the wheel, and the loosening the drum cover (it might be the drum ??)...I can't take it off because there is another piece outside of it (attached the axle) that keeps it from coming off. Seems like that side of the axle has some nuts and is threaded, but I'd rather not take the axle apart.
