Lifting an 03 Rubicon
#1
I was thinking about puting a 2 inch lift on my 03 rubicon...The reason im thinking about doing so is i want a bit more ground clearance and maybe some bigger tires in the future... But if i do this is it going to put more of a strain on the motor and tranny???? And right now i have stock tires on there... What would you say would be the biggest tire i could put on my machine without it really being hard on the engine and tranny.. Because i dont want big tires on my machine and it barely crawl up a hill while giving it everything it has or only doing 20mph..

i think engine performance lag with bigger tires is somewhat overplayed. on smaller mechines, larger(heavier rims/tires!) will mean more engine rpms to move the wheels. but not really exessive. you have a rubicon, plenty of power for even 28" tires without alot of power loss. if you think your mechine needs more "pep" you can always get a clutch kit for youe auto. but i have only put clutch kits on when people want more low end power, mudding ect.
i have alot done to my foreman; lift, bigg tires, and heavier rims. but still stock gearing, and goes the same speed as a stock foreman, no prob. if you where talking about putting 27"s on a 250cc quad you would need to regear, but your rubi has plenty of power to push big tires without engine/tranny dammage. there was even one gentilmen at a local mudding even with a rincon on 30"s and had stock gearing.

i get that all the time lol, the lilft came with the bike. but the guy i bought it from splurged and got highlifter springs AND shocks, so they came premounted. easy on and easy off. but i deffinately recomend the HL springs!
not really alot involved in a spring job that i remember. you can use a couple rachet straps to compress the springs when its on the ground, then jack it up and take off the shock assembly. im sure there is some kind of spring retainer that comes off the shock. its pretty straight forward. remember you only do one half the atv at a time, i actually had some dude trying to do all 4 springs at once lol
but if you are in doubt there are plenty of good bike shops and suspention places you can take the bike, or just the shocks, to and they will switch over the springs for cheap

I MADE A SET OF HOMEMADE LIFTS FOR MY 04 AND 05 RANCHERS. THEY WERE BASICALLY A 2" LONG BRACKET BETWEEN THE LOWER SHOCK HOLES AND THE MOUNT. I MADE A STRAP ON THE FRONTS THAT ATTACHED TO THE A-ARM TO KEEP THE BRACKET/SHOCK FROM BENDING (LIKE A HUMAN ELBOW). I DID THE SAME THING ON THE REAR AND ATTACHED IT TO ONE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL BOLTS. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT IT SEEMS TO PUT MY BALL JOINTS IN A BIND ON FRONT.

I have an 01 Rubicon and running 27" ITP tires with no lift. I keep up with my uncles stock Rubicon with no problems and have not noticed any real loss of power or performance differences... other than a little harder to steer but nothing to complain about....

i dont see where a lift will cause any imeadate damage unless you go too high ...but it will increase wear on the cv shafts ,and rear swinger joint ....but not to much if you dont put those parts in a bind..and i made my lift kit for my 300fw..somewhere between 2.and 2.5 inches.
(((((youll be fine with a 2inch lift )))))
