Trickle Charging via Lighter plug port?
#1
Anyone has tried to trickle charge their ATV batteries through the lighter/accessoty plug? It would beat having to remove the seat, plug the trickle charger to battery or even installing a quick connect for the trickle charge.
Just attach a male adapter to the charger and plug it into the lighter/accessory port in no time! Just unsure if the electrical circuit could take it because of relay etc...

Solar Power Trickle Charger that plugs into cigarette lighter.
Thinking about this though. The cigarette lighter is not hot (connected) with the ignition off. Pretty sure this would not work on ATVs where the cigarette lighter is switched through the ignition.

I have a battery tender and installed the pigtails on my X2 battery awhile ago and zip-tied the connector on the left side to keep it away from the exhaust and hot engine.
First time I hooked it up, it charged for about 4 or 5 hours! I didn't realize my battery was so low.
I wouldn't suggest chopping wires to mickey mouse the cigar lighter. Just asking for trouble imo.
My cigar lighter is rusting slightly. All of my Sp's lighters have done the same over the years. Forgot to put a little dialectic grease on this one.
I wish Popo would use a better grade/quality lighter that didn't rust so easily. Who knows, maybe if you bypass the ignition to back-feed charge, you may just burn your garage and house down!

You could wire the lighter hot as eggenz7 suggests, however, on my machines I do as mtpockets suggests. I have the pigtail connector on all the atv and motorcycles I have owned.
If you did wire the cigarette lighter hot you would want to make sure to fuse it properly.

Don't give anyone any ideas! With the current economy and real estate situation someone just might consider that! LOL! Although, it would keep me gainfully employed!

In our area of Mass realestate values have remained strong thank God.
A friend bought a new Deisel tractor (Mahandra) a few years ago, had it parked in his garage, there was a short in it and he lost everything. Fire Mar determined the short in the tractor sparked the fire.
Insurance covered VERY little contents and Mahandra couldn't have cared less.
Popo's little cigar lighter is as cheap as cheap comes. I'm glad it shuts-off with the key.
