what jet size for my ds for winter riding
#1
I have an 01 DS650 with a Ron woods CDI, Moose foam air filter, uncorked exhaust with a bigger tip on end,17 tooth front sprocket. What jet size should I use. I just orderd a dynojet kit and it will be in wednesday so I'm just trying to get a head start so I can make this as fast and painless as possible. Thank you all for any info.

Hightower/OMR Jetting
Here is some info for general jetting compensations.
Jetting rules of thumb for travel and/or seasonal changes
Compression Ratio Correction Formula:
CR at sea level - (Altitude / 1000 x 0.2)
Example for 9.7:1 piston (Stock)
9.7 - (3,000 / 1000 x 0.2) = 9:1
Stock DS runs well with 89 and above 3000 87 octane.
Main Jet Corrections, rules of thumb:
Altitude correction - drop one 5.0 increment (two jets-155 to 150) for every increase of 3000'
Temperature correction - increase one increment of 5.0 (two jets-150 to 155) for every 30 deg. drop
Humidity correction - increase one increment of 5.0 (two jets-150 to 155) for every 30% drop
Needle Adjustment - Example - If running in the 3rd notch from top, sea level,
When running above 5000ft - lower to 2nd notch or try 85 octane

Im at 2800 feet with exhaust, no airbox with k and n...im running a 176.5 with the weather being -20C you will have problems if you get as cold as weather as i do and do not change the pilot jet tho....it will not start.

Yea right now its -20 F with wind chill -40F I just got my dyno jet kit in.so hopefully saturday or sunday I can get it all back together. Too much crap to do and not enough time in the day right now.

As long as your changing the jetkit, check the size of your pilot jet. Sometimes the factory would install a #40. If it is, replace with a #45.
The DJ kit has a richer bottom and with the #45 turned out alittle more for winter - 2 1/2 turns, you should be all set.
