Default Battery not holding charge

I recently installed a winch on my '08 Polaris Sportsman HO 400, and according to the installation instructions it connects directly to the battery. Does anyone know if this is the correct or incorrect way for it to be? Is it constantly drawing power when the ATV is not in use or do I just have a bad battery? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I only have around 200 miles on this.... When I purchased it, the battery was dead so the dealer said they put a new battery on it, is it possible that they just charged it?

The battery should connect through a relay or solanoid which is activated by the switch to the winch. They could have, does it look new? You can take batt to an auto parts store and they will test it.

there should be a remote wire going to the contactors. tells them when the key is on or off. also stops voltage from going through.
