2004 TRX450 foreman fuse blown
#1
I have limited mechanical skills, and even more limited electrical skills. Keep that in mind if anyone is able to respond and help me with this problem. Thanks!
So here is the deal, the fuse that is linked to the front display unit, lights, and starter keeps blowing. I realize this is probably due to a short (right?) somewhere in the wiring. What I don't know is how to find the short and then fix it. Any advice?
Also, does anyone know for sure whether or not the fan is linked to the same fuse? I can't tell if its running while the quad is running with the blown fuse (quad still runs fine even with out the fuse working, as far as i can tell).
Thanks for the help.

Are the headlights on the same fuse??? My experience has been that a blow fuse has always been a frayed wire shorting out in the lights somewhere....usually easy to find by just tracing the wires out and seeing if one is pinched or something.

So is it the main fuse that is blowing? (how many amps?)
Does the fuse blow immediatly when you go to put a new one in? Or does it blow when you attempt to start it or something else?
I agree that the first thing I'd do is look the whole thing over for anything frayed, smashed, or chaffed through.
If you are talking about the main fuse and it blows immediately when you put it in, with the key off, then I think I'd next try disconnecting the regulator/rectifier, then put in a new fuse and see if it continues to blow.

It is not the main fuse, its a 15 amp fuse that runs the front display, lights, and starter. Does anyone know if that same fuse runs the fan?
The fuse does not blow immediately. After changing the fuse, and then riding it for aprox 60 seconds, it blew. Come to think of it, it blew once it was on a bumpy dirt trail. Does that mean its prob a wire that is tapping something and causing a short?

You have a backup pull starter, right? At least you will always be able to make it home.....

Yes, the pull starter came in handy while riding in the river bed in the middle of town at midnight this past weekend (I live in AZ, rivers are empty, fyi). Is there a way for me to find out if that fuse runs the fan also? I was hoping to find a diagram or something like that, that shows what each fuse runs.... If the fan is connected to a different fuse the I think i can still operate the ATV with out causing further damage...
