Putting on a clutch kit
#1
I have a question, how hard is it to put on a clutch kit? Everyone talks about changing springs, weights and so on. Doing the secondary spring, I can do that. But the primary spring and changing weights. I've got no clue. I've been trying to get my dealer to get me a professional shop manual for my bike, but having no luck. Can this be so hard? And do you have to have a selection of special tools to do it with.

If you are planning on pulling the drive(front pulley) you need a metric thread flywheel puller. IF all you are doing is changing front spring and weights the only key is to mark the pulley before you remove the 6 bolts. The spring comes out once you take those 6 bolts out.

Hey guys~
Putting on a clutch kit is really easy! If you already know how to change the spring in the secondary, the primary will be a breeze! No special tools needed. Remove the six bolts CajunDuckman reffered to and you already have the primary spring out! You will need an allen wrench to replace the weights, but that is fairly straight forward. After you're finished, be sure to tighten the bolts with a torque wrench! We forgot to do that with both my 400's and had to tear the rear plastic and clutch covers off both machines!

JustClick here and it will talk you through a Hot Seat Clutch installation. It is very informative and you can click on the pics and highlighted links to see more detail. I'll be referencing it once my clutch kit gets here.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Thanks for the link OneDollar. It doesn't sound to hard. Question is, does HPD put the same info in their clutch kit. For us newbies?
3TV, you have a HPD kit, right? do you think that the clutch kit you purchased will work with your White Brothers pipe? or do you think a person needs to get the HPD pipe? I'm in the middle of the road here and don't know which way to turn. I really don't want the HPD pipe, it's ugly. But the way you describe the White Brothers pipe is just the sound that I'm looking for.
I have a friend who ran a White Brothers on his ex400 and really liked it. And the sound was fantastic.
Thanks for all your help guys.
