08 Grizzly
#1
Hello Everyone,
I have an 08 Griz with EFI and EPS and love it. I have about 250 miles on it and have been pleased up to this point. I am wondering if any of you out there that have one of these has experienced smelling raw gas after riding when its hot outside. I noticed it alot during the first few trips out, but less frequently now. Also, what kind of oil are you using. I am going to change the oil again soon and am wondering what the rest of you are using. Am considering synthetic but don't really know how many hours/miles it should have before going to synthetic. Also, mine seems a bit weak on takeoff? It doesn't voluntarily pull the front wheels when cracking it wide open from a standstill. While I am not expecting this thing to be a Raptor, or a 450 it does seem a bit sluggish getting the rpm's up from a stop.

From what you have said it sounds like its running rich down low near idle. The bogging and gas smell would explain that. Get an aftermarket air filter and it might help. Machines are usually setup rich from the factory with carbed machines, not sure on the EFI though.
As for the oil you dont need to wait to use synthetic, thats a myth. Protection is protection the sooner you switch the better. I reccomend Amsoil 0w40. It works in all machines trans and crank in all climates, cant go wrong. Even works with wet clutches. Heres a link.

Have you had it in for a service yet? the valves should be checked for clearance after break-in, this could be slowing you down but not alot. Also have you run in any deep water? because the belt could have got a bit of water in it making the belt slip on the clutch sheaves.

Thanks for your feedback I appreciate it. As for the running in deep water, I definately have. I have always checked the drain plug for the belt after each trip through the water and have never had so much as a drop. It's dry as a bone always. I will give some credence to the rich mixture but the thing does fabulous on fuel so I kind of ruled that out. IDK. On a trip to ride the Cheese trail in Wisconsin my 700 and my gf's 450 got almost the same mileage, 30 mpg for both. Pretty amazing if you ask me, certainly the most fun you can have these days on a gallon of gas. Unfortunately the warranty is out now and I can't afford to take it to a dealer for a checkup. They would prolly charge me a fortune and find nothing. I would like to ride another griz and see if it is the same as mine. I don't need to be pulling wheelies anyway. lol I am going to switch to premium fuel and see if that makes any difference. The air cleaner is definately on my list of things to do soon. I also looked at the Amsoil 0W40 and like that idea. Thanks again
