Coolant Level ... Is it supposed to be low?
#1
I just bought my Wolverine about a week ago, and when I went to go pick it up I saw that the coolant was low, since it's liquid cooled. I then asked the guy if he could fill it because it looked low and he said that it is supposed to be like that, and you shouldn't fill it too much because it could hurt the machine.
Now I'm no expert, but is this guy full of you know what?

First of all, you can technically not have too much coolant--its never going to hurt anything. Excess can and will come out of the appropriate overflows.

Actually you can have too much coolant....... If you fill the expansion tank too much you will cause too much pressure in the system and some seal will fail. The pressure has to go somewhere and it will find the weak link, be it a hose or the radiator cap, or the expansion tank cap. The extra coolant will push out somewhere. Generally that dead space in the reservoir is more than enough for that expansion but if you filled it to the very top you might have a problem. Of course you'd have to literally fill it to the top.
No it won't hurt the engine internally as the radiator cap seal will leak before any internal seals leak.
Just about every coolant reservoir has a "hi/low" fill line and anything close to that line is generally fine. A small amount too much or too little won't matter, just make sure you have enough.

If I were you I would leave the coolant at the low mark(wont hurt) and monitor it for several rides, if it goes down you know there's a leak somewhere. If not I usually fill them halfway between the High and low lines, when the engine is hot it will raise the level.
