Default 2001 Polaris 90 runs good but wierd

My son rides a 2001 polaris sportsman 90. It is new to us, so I don't have a long history with this quad. It's a 2 stroke. I just put a new top end on it and it runs very strong. But, I notice that the throttle response if very touchy. It seems to either run at idle or when you press the gas it throttles up VERY quickly. I can't slowly increase the RPM. Is this generally how these 2 strokes run? Please let me know.

I just wanted to clarify as we just got off the quad again. It seems like when you press the throttle (very slowly), the RPM's jump from idle speed right up to almost full throttle. There is nothing in between. I can't figure this out??? It doesn't seem to be a carb issue, but maybe electrical or vacuum line related??

Default 2001 Polaris Sportsman 90 throttle issue

Did you ever find out the problem with your quad? My sportsman 90 is doing the same thing. It idles fine and when you ease into the throttle it has full power. I can't ease into it. Please let me know if you know the problem. Thank You.

Default 2002 Polaris Sportsman 90 throttle issue!

It has a new carb on it. I tried adjusting the throttle cable but no luck. It is either at idle or full throttle. I don't know what the problem is or would be. I really don't want to take this in to a dealer, too much $$$$$. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!!

Did you ever get your quad figured out? My sons quad is the same thing and has the same problem. Starts and idles great but once you give it any throttle it is like it is full throttle. No easing into it. My kid can't ride it like that.
