2006 Outlander 800 XT 4x4 - Fair price?
#1
Hey guys,
I was wondering what people think is a fair price for a used 2006 Outlander 800 XT 4x4.
It has over 6000 miles on it, winch, good tires, and green in color. The guy says he used it mainly for hunting. I have not looked at it yet but he claims that it is clean.
I guess the miles are what making me nervous about it. I have the 400 version and want something that will compete with the rest of my group who all have KingQuad 700's.
Thanks!

It will have no problem hanging with the KQ700. 6,000 miles is a lot though. Just a guess but for an '06 with that kind of milage i would expect somewhere between 4K and 5K. Certainly no more than $5,500 tops.

I see you have the 800. Do you recommend it? I've driven the KQ700's and just not that impressed. My 400 "feels" to have better take off and it has a much more comfortable ride. One of the guys in my group swapped with me on the trail and said if I ever decide to sell my 400 to let him know... He would buy it for his wife. But I think my wife will be riding mine. Biggest thing I do not like about the Bomb is the single brake lever.
Still debating between the B800, B650, KQ700, AC700, & AC650. No way touching a Polaris, and just don't like the feel of the Honda and Yamaha. Kawasaki maybe but the plastic feels cheap to me.

I love the Outlander - more fun than anyone deserves to have on the trail. I was originally going to buy a new Outy 650, but found an almost new 800 at a price that I couldn't turn down. No regrets - it has amazing power at any speed.
While I would prefer it to have split brake control, I think it's mostly because that's what I've been used to. No question that it would be nice to modulate brakes in some tricky downhill situations, but I really haven't had any problems with the single brake set up. Engine braking is very good - that handles most of your slow-down needs.
I've never been much of a Polaris guy either but if you are looking at the big-bores, you might want to check out the new Polaris 850 - everything about it looks pretty good.

I agree that 6000 miles is quite a bit for an 06 and you should easily be able to get it for near 4 I would guess. We have the Outlander 400 as well and I like it, but it has a lot of little nuances that would keep me from buying another.
And the Outty 800 and 650 will both out pace a KQ700 or 750. If you can find a good deal on an Outty 650, I'm sure you wouldn't be dissapointed. A couple years back I remember reading something that said the Outlander 800 was the fastest 4x4, followed by the Outty 650!

Thanks for the input guys!
So his asking price of $4,100 seems reasonable. I'll have to go and check it out. Make sure the spar looks intact and who knows maybe he has the odometer in kilometers mode or something.
Thanks again.

$4,100 seems fair with that kind of milage. If it's been well maintained, then $4,100 is a great price for a bike like that.
Take a close look at the spar frame. Hopefully, it will have a skid plate. If not, look for impact damage to the bottom and sides of the main frame "ski". The weak link to Outlanders is on models that do not have a skid plate - impact damage on the single spar frame will weaken it in those areas.

Well... I took a gander at it.
The beast has 8600 miles on it!! The display also blinks and resets on it. The spar only has damage on the very front.
"Dad" was not there, he left before I got there so I worked with his son. I left him an offer of $3100. We will see if he accepts it.
But damn! I know what I am getting next!!!! With the snow and ice we have around here that thing loved spinning its tires. I wasn't sure if the 4x4 was locking in, but leaned over and the front was spinning and throwing the snow. The ride is very similar to my 400 with lot more power and pep, but the brakes seems to grab better and easier then mine.

I forgot to give an update... I am a proud owner of the 800. Got it for $3,650.
