Default 2-50 oil what the h**l Polaris...

How did they come up with that one? It's hard enought finding 0-40, 5-50 but 2/50?? I'm going to cont. looking for a subsutute. I know it depends on the temps road in but I was unable to see the table for other grades of oils. I'm riding in 50-90 degrees at the most!

Are you sure that's not a typo?
My 07 hawkeye uses 0w-50, I use Mobil 1 0w-40 in the 700, RedLine 0w-40 in the hawkeye, both synthetic and no problems to date...

i beleave the newer bikes have 2w50 in them but guessing anything close as long as its a full syn. it would be ok.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they had 2-50, and then they switched to 0-40 quite a while ago, so you'd be fine with 0-40

I can't remember where I read it but supposedly they changed from 0w-40 to 2w-50 because of problems with low oil pressures at idle with the 0w-40...not sure if it's true though..
Obviously Polaris doesn't actually make the oil..but I have yet to find a manufacturer that lists a 2w-50 oil..

In the book for my 08 400 it clearly states to use a fully synthetic 2w50 as well, but I use a Mobil 0w40 with no issues yet (knock on wood)

This is my opinion, If there is oil pressure issues at idle, which I cant imagine, go with the 5w-40 or 5w-50 synthetics, if there is not an issue with pressure , go with the 0w-40 or 0w-50 synthetics... 0w-40/50 will be "thinner/lower viscosity" good for immediate lubrication in cold weather starts. Obviously, 5w-40 /50 is a tad heavier not allowing as quick lubrication as the 0w oil. So, better suited for warmer climates...

I'm sorry, 2w-50 sounds like we're splitting hairs....

Well, on the thin side of the viscosity scale, there's not much difference between 0W and 2W. However, on the heavy side of the viscosity scale, there's a pretty significant difference between 40 weight and 50 weight oil.

Still, a lot of Polaris quads are running around with 0W-40 in them without issue.

Maybe the newer machines don't have as close tolerances?

I think the 2W part of it is just splitting the difference between 0 and 5, so 0W-50 or 5W-50 would work just as well.
