Default How do you know when a rear shock needs replaced or rebuilt

It's a 2001 Polaris Scrambler 500 with a Fox shock. When I sit down on it (I'm only 100 lbs) the rear end squats pretty low. We are trying to figure out how to know if it needs rebuilt or if it just needs to be adjusted. When you sit on it it sounds like it's letting air out.. What do yall think?

Not sure if that machine is like a sportsman but I would think it would be the spring. The shock doesn't provide "lift" the spring is normally what helps hold the machine ride height.

Take the shock off the quad and use a spring compressor to take the spring off of the shock.Compress the shock all the way down and if makes bubbly sounds as it comes back out then the oil has mixed with gas and needs to be rebuilt. From my experience with sleds gas shocks need a rebuild every 2 years.
