yes, i have replaced the battery thinking it was a bad battery but that was not it. The bike cranks fine and everything works fine on it, but after riding for a while the electric start wont work the lights dim out. What is causing this prbolem could it be the stator if so how can i tell. Thanks

 

EARLY Sportsman! I would check reg/rectifier under front panel, usually the problem! Could be wire unplugged or module bad,should charge about 14 volts above idle at battery if everything good!

 

ok i hooked up a voltmeter to it and its reads at 13v when i turn the lights on the voltage starts to drop. i took the front panel off and looked on the drivers side but i cant seem to find the reg/rectifier. Could you tell me what wires im looking for.

 

ok i have found the regulator all the wires were hooke up and i clean the connections stil doesnt keep a charge should i maybe consider changing the regulator or ?

 

My bet is the reg, the one on my 425 went bad several years ago, replaced it and no more problems, have also changed them on a couple of other older bikes.
