Child Harnes for atv riding
#1
My daughter loves to ride on the ATV with me, and I have heard of these child harness things to use, and have found them on the internet for a bunch of different prices. So my question is has or does anyone use one of these, and if so how good is it, and is it worth the money. Also which brand would you recommend? Any input would be great, thanks!!

new2 - I purchased one - took it out of the box or put it on with my child. For me it was too cumbersome and I could not imagine using it. So I still have it - in it's original box. I believe mine is the "Kid Karrier".
How old is you daughter? My 5 yr old does fine on my X2. I think if I took my 3 yr old on the trail I would use the harness. I do make my children wear the motocross type chest protector, a helmet, goggles, rugged boots, and gloves.
I purchased the X2 because if gave my child a seat behind me - and the X2 gives some side protection from sliding off the side (unlike the Touring).

i added the a cargo box from cabelas that has the built on seat for the rear rack. my 5 year has ridden with me on the 4-wheeler every time since i bought it. with that box on there he is securely kept in place and is protected from all sides.

thanks for the responses, my daughter is going to be three, so that is why I was thinking about getting one. I thought about getting the seat for behind me but right now i dont feel too comfortable with that. I am going this weekend to get her a helmet, but i never thought about the chest protector, so maybe ill look at that as well.

I'd highly recommend this one over the rigid plastic ones for those under say 7 years old:

I made a break away lap seat belt for my Moose executive box. My 3 year old loves to ride with daddy. When my 3 year old sits in it he thinks it is like his car seat and does not move. The reason for break away is if we go over its better to fall off in my mind that maybe have the quad roll on top of you while strapped down. Best & safest would be like the clubs have. A roll bar for the rear just in case.

that is the chest protector I have for my children - Fox Peewee
new2polaris - yes I would use the child harness for a three year old. It is somewhat akward - but would be worth using for a three year old.
I would not reccomend strapping my three year old to the quad. As MrThor points out it is better for a child to get thrown away from the quad (with appropriate safety gear) than to have the quad roll on top of your child.
