Default Engine NOISE when i turn it off HELP! 04 rancher 4x4

hey guys, back again with another problem i noticed the other day after i was ridding my 350 rancher 4x4 2004. model that when i turned my key off the engine cut right off but it had like a grinding type whine for like 2 secs like the internal engine parts were still spinning. cant really explain it. friend of mine said i need to put like some lucas oil stabalizer or something in my oil..... any help please? only does it when i turn it off, and also not every time does it do this, just every few shut downs.

I'd imagine it also lacks engine braking?

Your machine has a centrifugal clutch so it can idle in gear, and in the center is a one-way sprag drive thing- which allows the engine to hold back the clutch even at idle speed.

When this fails, generally you will hear a wirring after you shut the engine off, which is the clutch still spinning because the one way sprag thing isn't working.

haha hey there JEFF! your the man, i was wondering why when i first got it, it would kinda nudge itself without any throttle to it,so i kinda just thought it was idled up way to high, so i turned idle screw down and its okay, in 1st gear it would kinda try to go on its own. so i just tuned it down a tad so it wouldnt nudge. guess the engine brake like u said. sounds like you know what your talking about all the time, what caused this to mess up and how can i fix it? hard to repair? and how bad is this on my wheely? just had to order two new front bearings haha now something else to worry with ;(

Check the centrifugal drive plate where the bearing grabs onto and the area inside the drum where the one way is installed into also.

Seen these components ruined when the center nut of the centrifugal clutch is run on with an impact during install and not spinning the drum to keep the oneway in it's release position. Yields the same result as what you are hearing, the drum keeps spinning when motor is stopped

Personally, if it were mine I'd avoid running it until repaired.

Snag a service manual if you plan on keeping the machine long term. You might also get an estimate from a dealer...

Hardest part of the job is rounding up a puller
and of coarse paying for parts !!
