LT80 Reed cage and black plastic spacer
#1
Would matching the black plastic spacer to the carb intake help in top end revs. I've already cleaned off the casting flashing on the leading edge just before the reeds. Not much, but every bit helps. Looking at the reed cage it tapers down quite a bit. Would it help to use a Dremel to open it up while I'm replacing the reeds? Ie make the squares taller to allow more airflow? The LT80 is only used in the sand, I've removed 2 rollers on the front, nothing else for now until the motor blows.

You can make it a lil taller. Flow the right and left side too. You can't hurt it.
Leave the black thing (insulator) alone.

I am trying to get the reed cage off my lt80 so that i can install the power reeds. but it seems the cage screws are way over tightened. any suggestions to help me get the screws lose and out?

I could not get the ones on my sons LT80 out by hand with a normal screwdriver either. I had to put a Phillips bit on some long socket wrench extensions to position the impact driver out in front of the engine skid plate. Using my hand impact driver (the one you hit with a hammer) with two good hits the screws popped loose. It was awkward but it worked!

I took out the worn steel reeds and put in a set of Boysen Power Reeds. They were $19 at the local dirt bike shop. They seem to make it a bit more peppy at the low end, and it idles smoother now that they are sealing better.
