Default new brakes sticking on timberwolf

my brother has a 2000 250 timberwolf 4x4. It has 3 drum brakes 2 on front, 1 on back when he bought it the brakes worked slightly as the day progressed they went out completely. we all thought he needed new shoes so we got a set for the back. On closer inspection we realized the old shoes were the same as the new ones hardly any wear but we put the new ones on anyway well they wouldn't stop it either so we adjusted the cam so that it would. well it worked it will bring it to a screehing halt but it will not release unless you get off and manually pull the lever on the drum that is attached to the peddle back. when we readjust each brake front and back it will only slow it down slightly. don't understand any help is appreciated

it sounds like your break acuator lever is not working, and the spring is not recoiling it when you let off the break cable. with the age of the mechine the cable could be streched and maxed out on adjustment.
