Default Warn 424 selector help

i bought a Warn 424 selector for my 06 350 rancher 4x4. Its only been on for a year and has just broke. it will not lock into 2wd. when you pull it up to lock it into 2wd it tries to lock but will just slowly go down back into 4wd. what could be the problem?

Default Warn 424 selector help

It sounds like the mechanism has become corroded. This happened to mine before. I'm talking about the part with the push button. There is a small shaft inside the tube that is locked in place by 2 ball bearings when it finally gets enough dirt or whatever in there these bearings freeze in place and won't allow it to lock. You have to take it apart to clean it. I cleaned it and used fine steel wool and coated everything with a light weight oil and it worked like new. Just be careful there is a spring inside and those ball bearings can get away quickly when you are not expecting them to come out.
