Is it possible to replace ignition with a toggle switch on 400EX?

I put on the race front plastic on it, and want to put a toggle switch in place of key. The key switch has four wires going to it, and i don't know which wires would go to the toggle switch. Anyone know?

Two of the wires are probably +12v and headlight perhaps. The other two are probably the continuity for the starter.I would remove the key switch and strip back each of your four wires a little, and with an aligator clip jumper, clip it on one wire of your choice, and then (with the headlight on)touch another wire and see what power up the light.Just be careful, you can blow your fuse if you touch the wrong two wires. You can also have someone hold the starter button in while you touch the wires and see what makes it crank.Or you can do it the easy way and get the schematics for it.Good luck.

Whatever you do, do NOT just strip the wires back and let em rip. Thats asking for trouble.
The four wires..and this is a good guess are probably
A: 12V+ feed to ignition switch
B: 12V- or ground
C: 12V+ return to starter relay
D: 12V+ supply to the coil
That isn't in any kind of order. Get a multimeter and test resistance with the key in the off position. Thats the safest way to test the circuit. Are you familiar with how to use a multimeter? A 12V test light will work too, you just can test circuit continuity with that.
Relax, there's only 4 wires or 16 combinations

I looked at my factory manual and the wires are as follows: You need to go to Radio Shack or such and get a DPDT double pole/double throw switch (crimp or solder) NOT CENTER OFF two way switch. Lay it on its side so you are looking at two rows of three contacts. Wire the green to the center pole on top and the Black w/ white stripe to the left top pole. That is your off circuit.
On the bottom row connect the red to the center pole and the black to the bottom right pole. One way is run one way is stop. That is it. I like solder connections for reliability. Good Luck.
green to black w/ white stripe is off. Red to black is run.

You can eliminate any key switch with a toggle. But, I don't know if the wiring is the same on your quad... See what you have at the switch one set of contacts should send a ground to the CDI to stop the other should send battery to the CDI and break the ground to the cdi....
