Default NGK equivalent spark plug

Hey guys,

I am wondering what the NGK equivalent plug is to Champion plug in a 2004.5 Sportsman 600? I went to Canadian Tire at lunch to buy a new set and their computers said it was a BKR5E. Is that correct, I thought I read on here somewhere that it was different like a higher heat range...

Also can anyone explain why they call it a 2004.5 Sportsman? Were some changes introduced halfway through the year?

Thanks,

Paul.

Look in Canadian Tire's book in the spark plug section. Look up your NGK plug and beside that it should list the AC,Bosh,Champion and motomaster equivalent of the NGK plug.

I think 04.5 was the point Polaris went from the locking two hub AWD system over to the exploding single front diff AWD plastic roller cage setup and they added the troublesome ECM brain box that can quite like a light bulb at anytime.

I'm pretty sure if you go here http://sparkplugs.com/default.asp you'll be able to cross reference the plug.

According to the 2004 owners manual (not sure if 2004.5 is different) the 600 calls for a RC7YC. The NGK cross ref is a BKR7E.

BTW, the BKR5E is listed for the 400 & 500 for that year.

Thats odd . My Clymer's maual that covers sp500
96-03 says

96-97 BKR5ES
98-01 BKR5E
02-03 BKR6E

But the 500 H.O motor never changed since 2001 to current.

BKR7E is the cross for the NGK plug for all the twins.Early 500's called for the BKR5E and the H.O's and later singles call for the BKR6E.
