02 polaris 90 sportsman won't stay running please HELP!!!
#1
I have bought a 2002 90 sportsman for my kids the person I bought it from had not started it in about 2 years. I have drained the fuel put in a new battery and changed the oil and cleaned the carb. right now it will start and idle but when start giving it gas it will dye. I have not changed the fuel filter because after cleaning the card I new I was getting fuel flow through it. you can only give it about 1/4 of the throttle and then it just dyes like it is getting to much air or something. can any of you pro's help me out? give me your ideas what it could be? and Should I go ahead and change the fuel filter? any help would be greatly appreciated/

Sounds like you still have something plugging up your main jet in the carb. It's the larger one in the center under the float bowl, should either be hex shaped or round with a flat blade screwdriver groove in it. It has a small hole in it so it's a good idea to poke through it with a small wire. Hold it up to a light and look through it to see if it's clean. The jets in those carbs are real small to you have to make sure they are thoroughly cleaned. You can check your filter flow by pulling the line off the carb and seeing how much flows through it and out of the hose. Some of these 90's have a screen in the muffler that will clog up and cause problems too. Usually there are 3 screws/bolts that hold a cap on the back of the muffler, the screen is right behind that.
