Default 400 scrambler gearcase (tranny)

Hello im new here, I was hoping some one could help me out. Last year I lost the forward on my 96 400, I took the gearcase apart to find the shift fork badly grooved so I replaced it with a new one and new gearcase oil, after a few hundred miles it was shot again so I picked up a differant gearcase on ebay (used) and I dont think it made it 50 miles and the forward gears locked up so I pulled it out again and the shift fork is shot in that gearcase, everything else in there looks good. Has anyone had any experiance with anything like this. Thanks for any thoughts or help.

i had some what of the same problem, mine i was told by my mechanic it was caused by my idle being set to high and it grinding when shifted into gear, not sure if that is of any help to you, but good luck and i hope you get it fixed and back to rideing again

Did you replace the slider gear and forward gear along with the shift fork? If not then will take a shift fork out again fairly soon! If slider (dog) gear is worn where shift fork rides, then will groove a new shift fork.
