ATV cover problems
#1
I've heard a couple of people complain about ATV covers ruining the paint and scratching the plastic components on an ATV when trailering them. Over time, it just rubs whatever it touches down from the constant movement of the wind like fine sandpaper. I've never had a problem with cotton sled covers. Wonder if anybody agrees with this from personal experience.

I've heard the same. I have really nice heavy covers from Cabelas, they even have openings for the tie-downs, but I don't travel with them on, not worth the trouble if it rubs the paint off the edges.

it should be common sense if you have a rough fabic such as final or simular materail that its going to rub this way and cause scratches unless its soft cloth like. but imo going thru the mud and trees will give pretty good scratches as well. anything that is allowed to flap in the wind on a wheeler is going to mark up the wheeler, unless its soft.

Before you put your cover on drape a old sheet or blanket over your quad then install the cover . Thats what I do with my sled so no worries about scratches . You could sew a soft cloth onto the inside of your cover if your looking for work

That's a good idea. I don't have a front "salt guard" on my trailer as we call them in New England, and the bike gets covered in this nasty salt/dirt/oil/rubber grime that gets in every cranny. I ordered the XP cover from Polaris, so we'll see how well it fits and ties down. The machine's paint is pretty damaged already from riding boot buckles and tree damage, but would like to minimize if at all possible.

For my two Yamaha Sleds they make a factory undercover (White) with Yamaha on it..........Then put the normal cover over that......Caper........
don't know if they make undercovers for ATV's ......Like said above a cotton sheet should work........

^^^ this is what i had on my apex and they work good. i forgot to put it under last year before i had my covered trailer and the stock cover dulled the paint where it was being wind blown. lesson learned.
