AC 400 always dies on hills!!
#1
Hello...I have a 2007 AC 4x4 Manuel that I am having a serious problem with. First of all, if it sits for a week or longer, it takes a couple minutes to get it started. Eventually it will start if you rock back and forth on it a couple times. Then, if you try to move it right after starting it sometimes it will die. Once you get past this, it rides fine as long as you are on level ground. But when you try to scale a hill or go down a steep one, it begins sputtering and eventually dies. Funny thing is, it usually fires right back up in the same spot it dies. We are 100 miles from the dealer I bought from but we have an ATV shop here in our little town and the guy down there has replaced the fuel line and cleaned the carb. He says the fuel pump is fine. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's strange to me that you can rock it side to side to start it or keep it running. Any help is greatly appreciated!

PS. I have also noticed that it idles with somewhat of a high-pitched squeel and runs with a bit of a knock while in gear, but not very noticable at all. I have been told several times that this is common with ACs and nothing to worry about. Any opinions? I have also (as suggested) used SeaFoam in a tank of gas, changed oils several times in a sitting, and tried draining the carb by loosing that screw. On the last one, it actually helps for a few minutes before going right back to the way it was.

The 2008 400 TRV were have here has the same issue (not on the hills) but with the idle and moving right after start-up.
I think it is the AUTO choke .......May need some time to kick off.....
As with the hill thing.......Scooter sounds correct......Must be a carb Float issue.......When your Quad is on the hill incline,The carb bowl must think it's full and not letting any more fuel to enter........Then cutting the supply off to the motor........................Caper...........
Maybe when the guy in town cleaned the CARB the float shut-off may have been disturbed........
