Default 08 800 high idle

hey guys my 08 has 1100kms and 76 hrs on it.was wondering what would cause it to idle higher than normal.use to idle at 1250 .now today was doing some work around the yard and noticed that it was idling at 1380 and when the fan came on it was 1320.every thing else is fine but the idle.it is harder to shift now to i know that is from the high idle.anybody have any ideas or do i have to go to dealer.1 hr away

maybe try to adjust the throttle cable?

you could also have a hole in the filter causing it to run just a bit lean.

the adjustemnt in the cable is more for the etc slack adjusting. the idle is set w/ a dealer computer. sholdnt be higher then your stock as mentioned. does it raise or lower if you turn the handle bars?

no it doesnt change when moving the bars.in the manual it says if greater than 1300 throttle stop screw set incorrect.anybody know if i can just adjust the stop screw.it also says throttle cable sticking improperly adjusted, routed incorrectly.i didnt think the cable would get tighter just looser as it streches but i will check that to.

If the cable was too tight, from routing ect the idle should increase or decrease/change when the bars are turned lock to lock as Sten said.
Since you have a manual, also look under the Fuel Starvation/Lean mixture troubleshooting steps...the fuel supply stuff likely doesn't apply since everything else is fine..but the air/vacuum leak ect stuff may get you in the right direction. You should be able to adjust the screw..but it may have a cover over it..can't recall on the 800..reason they protect the throttle body adjustment is it is rare for it to need adjustment once set as long as everything else it working properly..therefore they make it a dealer only adjustment...since 98.69% of the time there is something else effecting idle speed.

well thanks guys i checked evrything i could think of cable ,vacum lines nothing made a change in idle.talked to 2 different dealers today.asked about the throttle stop screw first dealer said need a special tool and if i adjust it i would have to change the throttle body and i said huh? second dealer where i bought my machine from said i could try it and see if it helped and if not bring it in and they would fix it still have warranty so i thought great.so i turned it 1/2 a turn and presto got idle at 1220 which is within the 1180 +- 100 rpm way better than 1380 or 1400 where it was.went for a 2 hr ride and it is awesome again back to easy shifting and all.thanks for the replies all
