sorry for the delay, I hadn't seen your post.
The frame number is on the tube right under the engine I'm not at home, so I can't tell you which side...I think it's left...but not sure). Anyway, numbers are right on that tube under the engine. The lower you look at it, the better you see it (unless there's dirt on the frame).
I'll tell you tonight where EXACTLY it is (I'll also tell you for the engine number)

OK. Went to give a look in the garage.
Both serial numbers are on the left side.
The frame number is where I said right above, and the engine number is right above the left engine case (the black plastic part that goes from front to the rear sprocket). You can't miss the engine #. Fram is right under the engine, on the tube.
Don't remember though about the letter/year. I had posted about this and got replies...but I don't remember any more

Banshee's #'s are on the left hand side of the bike. VIN = lower frame tube, kinda behind the shifter and the Engine Serial = is on the left hand side above the magneto cover.
The first 3 digits of the serial are the model number, remaining digits are the unit production number, Not sure about an 86 banshee, but on an 87 the model # should be JY4.
Note that when you powdercoat the frame, the VIN # is sometimes lost due to sandblasting/ Pcoating, and may have been relocated.

i guess i screwed up , because i bought a banshee that dosnt have any serial #s. they were written on the receipt and i never thought to look on the frame. i just figured that i could go down and get a new title if i wanted to but not without a vin #. not to bright for someone with 9 quads huh
how many of you have untitled machines newer than 1988?? maybe ill ask on another post
thanks
