Default 2004.5 500 HO oil tank replacement

From an earlier post, I mentioned an internally stripped oil plug on the oil fill tank of my machine. Went ahead and purchased a used one off ebay, should be here today or tomorrow.

Can anyone offer any advice on the replacement of this tank? Everything seems like it would be relatively simple, with the exception of removing the oil hose with the in-line filter on the right side of the tank.

Any tips on this procedure?

Many thanks.

Edit: forgot to mention, any thoughts on cleaning the inside of this used oil tank before the install? washing it out with engine oil? any cleaning agents that might work?

Its should be straight forward ,just the mounting bolts and the two oil lines. The line with the screen are removed on oil changes anyways so there no big deal.

I hear the the older 500, 96-03 stronger Polaris Aluminum Alloy oil tanks will mount right on in place of the weaker plastic oil tanks used now. They have the same bolt pattern, Polaris went with plastic for cost saving was all.

i would use some gas to wash out the tank. wont hurt anything and make sure to get the gas out and like he mentioned should be straight foward. imo

thanks guys.

i would have chosen the aluminum tank but wasn't sure about the fitment of the oil lines being the same for both. and the mounting holes for that matter, though it looked close.

since i haven't heard of anyone else doing this (bolt stripping internally), i'm going to take a chance and hope that this one works.
