Default Kazuma Meerkat

Hello!

I just bought a used (about 5 years old) Kazuma Meerkat 50cc. The owner says that it hasn't been used for a year and now will idle but stalls when given throttle.

I disassembled and cleaned the carb, which looked clean and there wasn't any visibly worn parts.

It seems to run rich and a new plug turns black pretty quick.

By adjusting the air-fuel, I have gotten it to run with a little throttle if you press it slowly. When first started cold, it seems to respond well to the throttle for about 15 seconds, and then dies when you blip the throttle.

It idles and starts well.

Is there some carb wear or problem that would not be visible? Should I buy a carb rebuild kit and rebuild the carb anyway?

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance
Steve

Get rid of it. I had one, and had nothing but trouble from Day 1. I finally traded it in for an Eton, and the dealer only took the Meerkat in on trade because he wanted to display it as a comparison for his Etons.

Welcome to the forum countryatv!

Is that a 2 stroke? Have you tried a new spark plug?

Problem Solved!!

It turned out to be something totally unexpected.

It was the kill switch connector that attaches to the child's clothing to shut down the atv if he falls off.

There was an intermittant connection that caused the ignition to cut in and out from the vibration when you applied throttle.

After fixing the electrical connection, the atv runs fine.

Thanks all for your suggestions.
