Red face Polaris Big V-Twin or Brute Force 1ST POST

Well as you can tell from the title, I'm trying to decide which to buy USED. I see deals on Sportsmans and Brute Forces from 2005 to current in my area (Richmond, VA) around $4500 regularly. Why should I choose Polaris over Kawasaki?

I'll ask the same question on the Kawasaki page (if I can) to see from both perspectives.

Thanks,
Kevin

they are both good bikes. stay away form the 05' BF750 as it had some electrical issues as the 05' 800's have melting issues. the 800's run hotter then the BF does. the low poistion on the BF radaitor makes it fill w/ mud faster and the small fins tend to clog up. as far as power goes the the 750 and 800 are close in the power speed range. i can just barley get by my friends 07' BF750. the 750 seems to be lower geared and dont need to use low range as much as i do. the down fall of the brute is thats it requires to hold a lever in to get the front axle to lock into awd, but you get buy a pin lock to lock it in instead of holding it. both good bikes, but at least buy the 06 or newer. imo

Default So far the BF seems ahead, even on the Polaris forum

I rode in an ATV ride last weekend. The BF and Polaris way outnumbered anything else. I can tell these must be the forerunners in the market today. I was riding my '07 Bayou 250 so I'm comfortable with Kawasaki. The Sportsmans seem to take a bit more RPMs to get going than the BFs.

I read somewhere about mud getting into the air cleaner box and sucked into the motor, what's this about?

Dunno about the airbox thing, but I can tell you I've winched more BF's of different generations out of mud holes than any other quad. And I still think it's a great trail quad. But my $$$ is one the Sportsman.

w/ the same size tires my bud and me can go pretty much the same, but i can edge him a little. on the sportsmans the air intake for engine and tranny are up above the seat in front of the seat on the left side panel so you can pretty deep.

You left out some important information.

What do you plan on doing with it? How will you use it? What kind of terrain? Do you plan on modifications?
