Question 2004.5 Sportsman 500 - Tach shows "0" rpm

The battery on my wife's 2004.5 Sportsman 500 drained down over the winter. After charging it up to 13.97 volts, the tachometer reads "0" rpm. The battery reads 14.11 volts when the engine is revved up. The reverse speed limiter works, but the AWD engagement speed controller does not. All the other readings on the instrument cluster are okay, and the speedometer works fine. The lack of a tach reading is not a real problem, but I am concerned about the AWD engagement controller which supposedly works off the rpm. Any suggestions?

sounds like a speedo issue. the awd system is controlled in the speedo.

Thanks, chuck_raduenz. I'll look into that first.
