My wifes 04' Trailboss 330. I dont believe her cooling fan is kicking on. I mean I dont hear it or see it during or after riding. Theres no way of telling if its overheating from a cluster light. I was riding with her for awhile the other day. It was running fine, but felt VERY hot. Hotter than normal.

Question is, where would I start to see whats broke? Thermostat? And where specifically would I look? I can figure things out if I'm pointed in the right direction. Thanks in advance!!

 

The fand on those are for oil cooling and dont come on very often unless it is being ridden very hard on hot days or being worked hard.

 

Find the temp sensor in the radiator, follow the wires to where the plug in is , unplug it and jumper across the connections on the wiring harness side, turn key on and fan should run, or you can unplug the fan and supply 12 volts to it with a battery or charger and see if it runs.

 

We had a trailboss, and the fan rarely came on. That was one cool little machine. We rode the far out of it and never had a problem. Easy to ride, maintain, the only problem was the lack of power. I did end up dropping a tooth in the front, and that gave it a little more zip... but overall, a good machine.

You can check to see if the fan is working. There is a switch that controls the fan coming on. It screws into the back of the radiator. If you unplug it from the electric input, take a small piece of wire, form it into a u shape and put it in either side of the switch....basically completing the circuit. If it comes on, you know the fan is ok.

When our thermal switches went out in our machines, thats what we did to make the fan run, until we could get a new switch.

 

Mine rarely ever comes on. First time it did, I didn't know what the noise was.

Since it's air cooled, the motor is going to feel hot. You may want to check the spark plug and see what color it is. If it is running hot/lean, the plug will be whiteish color.
