Default 98 Xplorer 300 gas

Hey guys,
Just bought a 98 Xplorer, got a real good deal on it because it needs some work.

The guy that I bought it from has been running pre-mix in it...the wheeler is oil injected. I don't know how he wasn't fouling plugs! The wheeler smokes and runs a little rough, but I'm pretty sure it's because hes running premix and running the wheeler way to rich.

I knew he was running premix and that he hadn't been keeping the oil injection resevior full, but I checked it and sure enough the resevoir is full.

What is the ratio of gas fill ups to oil fill ups, anybody know? Any lasting effects of the previous owner running premix in it?

I'm going to switch it over and run regular non mixed gas the way that it should be run. Anyway easy way of testing the oil pump to make sure that it's still pumping?

I know on jetski's a lot of times people pull the oil pumps and run premix so they don't have to worry about the pumps failing and cooking the engines...is that something that people worry about on these atvs?

the oil usuage is very little. easiest way to check pump is to drain gas and put about a gallon of 40:1 premix in. take the oil inject line (the one that runs from the pump to the cylinder) off of the cylinder end. start motor and at idle should be getting about a drop a second. does not run very fast. should drip faster at higher RPM's
