Default XP Lock & Ride rear storage box.

Well I bought the rear storage box for my 850 today and the space is going to be great on long rides, but I was a little disappointed that there were only two lock & ride anchor points on it to secure it to the rear rack. Are these two anchors enough to keep it locked down tight? I thought there would be 3-4 anchors anyway! Does anyone have one of these and had them come loose?

My buddy has one of the L&R rear boxes and has had no problems with it.

Don't worry, it should be fine. 3000+ miles with my L&R Cargo box with zero issues.

OK, I just thought I'd ask. Thanks for your input!

Should be fine on most trails. Fishy has lots of miles on his, so he should know, but with bumpy trails or ditches, the box can come loose.

I would have sold you mine rancher and asked someone to bring it out for you. I haven't used mine yet.

My L&R box has three seasons on two different quads, and no issues. In fact, it's on my old 500HO in my avatar pic... and it was a rough ride that day.

If you are concerned I imagine you could put 2 more on it with a little work..if the box covers 2 more it would be just a matter of getting the anchors and drilling the bottom of the box,if not as long as 2 of the holes are close to the edge of the box they have lock and ride anchors with brackets..eitherway making it watertight would be a little more work.

With that said..I put 4 anchors on my tamarack lounger, but I did test it with 2 and while it will move around a little more there is no way it would come off completely without something breaking.
I would trust 2 for a cargo box..just make sure you have them screwed as tight as you can while still being able to get them on and off without too much trouble. I have the ones on my seat pretty tight..have to push down and work them in,same coming off rock the box a little to work them out..with them engaged I bet you could pick up the back of the machine by the box before they would come out.

TRUE STORY:

When I wrecked my SP800 (I know its not the XP but its all based on the same
L&Ride technology) 2 months ago. My quad flipped me, I rolled over or it rolled me over, lol
then it took several rolls down a steep mountain hill. Lots of busted plastic BUT the Lock&Ride rear cargo box stayed attached and never POPPED off. Can you believe it? Ironically, I believe it held me in for enough of the flip that helped to protect me from more injury IMO (possibly slipping off on the back end then I would be under the quad (exhaust end) which would of not been good by my estimation.

So I would think your XP rear cargo box would have no issues of unfastening for the trails.

Cheers,

R'

Rancher55, i have the L&R box for the rear, and yes i was dissapointed that only 2 brackets came with it, YOU need 4 L&R brackets, 2 will not cut it. make sure u get the long ones, i have all 4 brackets in mine and it is very sturdy, get a small drill bit and drill a hole in the front on both sides for "water to drain", just a heads up!

Rancher thought I would add my two cents also. Had the l and r on my 2005 700 sportsman with the two locks only and never had a problem. Been to utah and maine along with other rides and never had a problem. The dealer tried to tell me it would not fit my new 850 xp. Glad I didn't listen as it fits just fine. Hope it helps.
