150cc HI-BIRD CARB
#1
This looks like a great resource, I wasnt able to find anything specific to my problem searching through the forums so I thought I would start a new thread.
I bought a 150cc HI-BIRD for my kids (got a really good deal) after a couple years its started to run really rough so I took the carb off for a cleaning, well I couldnt get several of the screws off (stripped them out) so I decided to buy another one instead of messing around with it. After a couple of weeks I re-installed the new CARB but I cant find the PIC I took of how the AIR/FUEL lines hook up. Can someone send me a PIC or 2 of how the AIR and FUEL lines hook up...I'm sure once I see it I'll remember!
Thanks, Mike

Well, I thnk I have the new carb installed correctly but I'm having the same issue as with the old carb, gas is pooring in to the carb, flooding it and pooring out of the over flow...it will flow in to the crank case if I dont turn it off. I dont crank the engine at all, the gas just lows right threw...does anyone have any idea what I'm missing?
I could still use a PIC of the air/fuel lines to verify I hooked them up correctly.
You can email me at mchsmth@broadstripe.net
Thanks, Mike

gas pouring out..???? you wanna check the floats in the bottom of the carb....these sound like they are sticking open.......just imagine the bottom of the carb as a toilets water tank....when its empty the float is low and the tank fills to a preset point...the carb is stuck and thinking it needs to continue to fill hence why its pouring out of the over flow.....take a screwdriver handle and firmly 'tap' the bottom of the carb to replease the floats....i say 'tap' and not whack as you can crack the carb housing if to hard
hope this helps

also the fuel intake for the carb will be usally up near the neck end where the air filter is....rest are proberly breather pipes
hope this helps

There may have been descant glel in the carb bowl that will dissolve after time but has a tendency to stick the needle. Drain the carb and bounce the rear of the atv up and down quickly may also help to unstuck it. If no luck then remove the bowl and see why it's sticking and or adjust the float!

Thanks to all that replied...I stopped at TSC this afternoon and found and little dune/dirt buggy with the same engine/carb. The fuel intake line and over flow were mixed up, once I switched them around and capped off the overflow everything seems to be working normally.
