Default 98 Xplorer tranny in 98 Scrambler???

Is a tranny from a 98 Xplorer 400 4x4 a direct bolt in to a 98 Scrambler 400?
My scrambler 400 is a shaft drive front end and I'm not sure if the Xplorer is or not.

Does anyone who has done the low range swap know?

Thanks,
Kevin

The two trans you speak of are different. I have done a low range swap on an older machine and this thread tells a little bit about my experience.

Nice write up!

When you say they are different do you mean because of the low gear and shifter mods or that the tranny wont fit even if the linkage is modified?

I know about the shifter problems and I'm willing to deal with that. I just want to get a tranny that will be a direct bolt in for the frame and alignment.

They are physically different. All I did was look at the parts list for both. The explorer uses chains for the 4wd, your scrambler uses a driveshaft. So it will not work.

Okay. Thanks.

I wasn't sure if it was chain or shaft. Did any of the xplorers come with shaft drive?
