Shorten the shifter??
#1
What would be the effects of eliminating the shift linkage on my warrior. The footpegs keep bending, and take the linkage with it. I was going to just bend the stocker, then weld it to the piece that bolts to the shift shaft. This would make the shifter shorter, which means less leverage. Would it be too hard to shift after this procedure? Is that why Yamaha didn't do this in the first place? The whole footpeg design is rediculous if you ask me.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I would be more worried about the pegs bending!! By (yamaha) putting the shift linkage on it allows you to adjust to your foot size, rideing style, ect. I have a banshee which does not have the linkage and I am haveing some shifting problems with my new boots and am thinking of putting a linkage type shifter on. It has been a while since I looked at the warrior shifter design, as every one that owns one is doing MASSIVE rebuilds right now (heheh, they are trying to keep up to us banshee boyz!! ). I would look at how the shifter works and what kind of clearances, ect. that you have to work with before you start modifying stuff. Like I said though, I would be way more worried about the pegs bending and would look extensivly into a way to stop that from happening!

See, that's the whole idea.
My plan is to cut off the piece that the shifter pivots on, and make the shifter totally independant of the footpeg.
then cut out a piece the same shape as the peice thats bending.
Weld the new piece to the bending piece, thus making it twice as thick.
then get longer bolts to mount it with
any suggestions

Yeah, my foot pegs on my Warrior also started bending when doing jumps.
As i approach the jump I stand and gas it and then when the bike starts coming down I bend my Knees to cushion the landing but I think this is when the pegs bend.
Right now I use a piece of old 2 inch diameter steel pipe to put over the peg and pull up on the pipe and lean across the seat and push down and the pegs bend straight. This after every second or third ride.
Problem also is that the rear mudguard fasteners come loose from the foot peg pins and go back towards the tires.
Do u think I am landing wrong ?

That is exactly what has happened to mine, i tried fixing them before by welding a triangle shaped gusset onto the pegs, but that didn't work, so i am going to try the procedure i suggested above.
The posts that stick off the black guards have snapped off of mine, so even if i do get it fixed, they still won't clip into the metal guards.

Do you have aftermarket suspension? The biggest jump I have seen without a warrior bottoming the suspension is like 30-35 ft table top, And the rider was about 200 lbs. If you are bottoming your suspension then this could explain why your pegs are bending..
