Yamaha problem need some advice
#1
I recently purchased a 2001 Grizzly and have had nothing but problems with the belt.
This thing has been slipping since the day I bought it. I have had it back to the dealer on four seperate occassions, about 1-2 weeks each time, every time I get it back the dumb thing works good for about 5 miles and then it starts slipping again.
The dealer has replaced all of the oil seals and the belt but it just does not fix the problem. The dealer has been in touch with Yamaha, they told them to use a lighter weight oil and make sure it was warmed up before riding it. Okay did that still the same problem.
I think I just want out of this machine, I still want a Grizzly but just not this one. Have any of you had any experiences like this, and if so what did you do?
Do you think it would be out of line to expect the dealer to replace my Grizz with one that works at no additional cost? If so, What would you expect to recieve as a trade-in value on the purchase of another one. This thing only has about 160 miles on it and about 30 of them have been put on it by the dealer during thee testing and repair of this thing.
I would appreciate any input you could offer.

The dealer will do any, and everything possible to keep from giving you a new machine. You are pretty much at their mercy. If they sell used machines, I would demand a loaner until they fix the problem. Have you thought about taking it to another dealer? Sometimes a fresh perspective on the matter makes all the difference.

Thanks for the replys.
The belt is definetly slipping due to oil leakage.
In addition to replacing the seals they did adjust the clutch sprag at Yamahas direction.
I have not really considered another dealer because of the paper trail it might create. I also dont want the finger pointing to start, you know the drill "that other service department really monkeyed this thing up"
The dealer is very sympathetic but sympathy is not what I am looking for it's results!
Does the lemon law really cover items such as quads?
I know the dealer would be reluctant to "exchange" this thing but do you think they should at least give me a fair price to trade it in or am I just the last ethical person around?
Thanks guys.

when they replaced the seals did they replace the belt before or after?i delt with some pretty dumb dealers before they could not fix a problem where other dealers found it a first glance,,i would not give up on the grizz its a good atv ...

They replaced the seals and belt at the same time(s). They can run this thing in the test stand with the cover off and no oil leaks. When you put the thing under load thats when it leaks and causes the belt slip.
I'm wondering if maybe one of the shaft assemblies that the seals are on has a nick or is undersized.
I'm not giving up on the grizzly just thinking of giving up on this one.....aaarrrggghhh

Before you go getting rid of it Id try taking it to a diffrent dealer, it may cost you some money but that very well may be the problem? From my experience some dealers or their mechanics sometimes mess things up rather than fixing them... Defintely worth a try?! I would NEVER bring ANYTHING to my local yammy dealer, it would go in a 2x4 2stroke and come out a 4x4 4stroke I would never let him touch my blaster... he told me to put injection oil in the tranny!!

personally,i would demand a new one! its covered under warranty and they havent fixed the prob. after x amount of tries.thats not good business relations and i think if it cant be fixed, replace it!!!these quads cost too much hard earned money to be working on all the time!!!
