400AT won't idle properly
#1
Hey guys. You may have seen a couple of my other posts regarding an issue I have had with my 2007 Rancher 400AT not starting. Turned out to be a bent (and subsequent) stuck open intake valve. It did hit the top of the piston as a small mark indicates. Not 100% sure what the cause was but have ruled out timing. Talking to a Honda Tech he said it could have been valve backlash from high revs or downhill decent. Anyway...have it rebuild and back together. I have done the valve clearance check and have the m/c running again. Unfortunately it won't idle without some choke. I know it is a carb adjustment issue, something I am not real experienced with but determined to learn. Here's my question: When I took apart the bowl and float to clean it, when I replaced the jet screw I turned it back in the 4 1/2 turns that I had turned it out. The screw remains very loose. I only have to turn it 1/2 more turn until it becomes snug. Is this normal? Won't it loosen off on its own? Should I be looking at adjusting the fuel/air screw that is on the side of the carb? Any help is greatly appreciated
