Default X2 500 valve adjustment.....

Howdy everyone......just turned 1500 miles on my 07 X2. The oil has been changed four times and the rest of the fluids once. It runs great. No problems what so ever. I don't like to mess with engine stuff except to maybe change a spark plug. The question is....should I or is it that important to adjust the valves?......do they normally need or go out of adjustment? Like I say it runs great and is not broken. Thanx....NoJoke

Default Valves

It can never hurt to check them. Didn't have to make any adjustments on my last three sp's. Asked the dealer about it on my old 05 800 back when I first bought it and they said that unless I noticed significant power loss or excessive valvetrain noise then not to worry about it(other than checking occasionally). That one ended up piped, clutched, 6" lift, 29.5", tires, and spent most of it's time WOT in the mud and never needed an adjustment.

Mine tho its a 500 not a 550 were just adjusted for the first time at 4400 miles . It now seems that the motor runs smoother and is a lot quieter I could definitely notice sound wise that they were adjusted .

I asked my dealer about it and he said that it isn't that common of an issue with the 500's. He said that the bigger bores need it done more frequently then the 500's.

I thought Polaris twins ( BIG BORES ) had hydraulic lifters, therefore no adjustment is possible or necessary. The valve train has zero clearance all the time .

Your dealer is full of $hit. The big bores are twins with hydraulic lifters that do NOT require adjustment. I have head ever 100 hours on the motor is a realistic time for a valve adjustment.

Update.......Had the valves adjusted this last Friday by Delta PowerSports in Lathrop, CA. The service manager performed the work himself and this guy seems to know his stuff. The valves were a bit out of spec. I rode for a few miles afterward but couldn't tell any difference in performance. I'm not disappointed.....but I feel better about having it done.... I like having my X2 in tip top shape. Thanx to you all for your thoughts on this thread....NoJoke

I have a rule that any time I have the gas tank off I will check/set the valves on my 500.
Get TDC and set them @.006
