Default X2 tailgate cables

Is this something I can claim under warranty? Or is there a better fix for this?

I just found it so I hadn't put much thought into it. It's only 14 months old. Would hate to have to replace new cables every year.

One of mine did the same thing. I bought 2 new ones......one to replace and the other a spare. When I tried to remove the screw from the tailgate side of the cable, it wouldn't back out......so I just cut the bad cable and left it alone using one cable and it works fine. I think the retainer inside the tailgate was backing out also and wouldn't allow me to remove the screw completely. As for warranty on your situation......who knows...all you gotta do is ask. Good luck....NoJoke

Kind of surprised. Haven't had any issues with the X2 or the ATP which has the same setup. I'd ask also about warranty.

I had that problem and got new ones under warranty. The reason mine did that was because the screws holding each end were too tight, so on closing, rather than pivoting at the screws and the cable folding slightly, the screws held the ends tight, so the cable did a lot of bending, causing the broken wires as you have. Keep the end screws loose, and be more careful when closing, ensuring that the cable gets into a good position.

I'll have too look for my warranty paperwork now. I can handle this kind of claim. Thats a good diagnosis. I'll be sure and adjust for that in the future. I can't go see right now but I don't remember the eyelets having any movement to them. Screwed tight. Was it a pain filing a claim for such a small amount (8.33/ea)?

Ya, from the schematics on Motorcycle Parts, Motorcycle Accessories ? BikeBandit.com thats the Nutsert, Hex where it connects to the box but I cant see any retainer where it connects to the tailgate end.

I would consider finding some stainless steel cable, and crimp on eyelet's to make your own, and the SS would be much stronger and more durable IMO
