is the light coming on and actually overheating(antifreeze coming out of the tank) or is it a bad ecm giving false indication. has your bike had it's ecm replaced under the recall? just a thought.

all systems are functioning properly and the ecm is not the one on recall, i have checked the sensors and they are perfectly weithin specs the unit is overheating. i am going to wrap the exhaust because it passes so close to the intake water hose it is actually heating the water before it enters the pump plus it is radiating heat back into the block. but i know that i am running lean because of the color of the plug. so if i eliminate this extra heat i should be ok but i can't see how to adjust the carb

Has it been working properly before it started to overheat or did you just get the ATV?? I would clean out the carb jets first to see if one is plugged a bit making it run lean. Check for the correct jets while you are in there. Also check for a crack in the rubber between the carb and the engine. This can alow air in and make it lean. Just a few starting points.

If your plug is white, you definitely need to find the source of the problem! Follow
02magnum's advice - IF someone has not messed with the original jetting, You have an air leak that is allowing your machine to run WAYY lean.
