Questions about Override wiring
#1
I'm ready to make the overide mod to my 08 700 x2 and I would appreciate some clarification on Stendori and Kerbirds wiring post. I opened up my speedo pod and looked for the wire colors mentioned. I found the grey/orange, red/white and purple wires running into the large plug in the back of the speedo. The brown wire runs into the other connector (3 pin) that connects to the back of the speedo. So heres the questions;
1) The purple wire has a faint "tracer" on it. The "tracer" is not as pronounced as the other wires tracer, but it is the only purple wire that I found. Is this the correct wire.
2) Do you splice into the described wires a couple of inches from the plugs in order to use the relay?
Thanks for any input. And hats off to Stendori and Kerbbirds for the info in the post.

do you need the purple wire for reverse? if so it is under the seat where all the other trans wires go to. but spliceing into that will play tricks on the trans postion display on the speedo. the purple trans wire goes into a resistor pack then sends the resistor ohms down the white wire to the speedo. you will need to add another relay to get the speedo display to work correctly in reverse.

My question pertains to the "sticky thread" that Stendori posted about the reverse override mod. The way the directions are written, I think that all of the wiring for the relay is in the speedo pod. There was no mention of wiring under the seat.

if it just a switch stendori info will work. but if your adding a relay like Kerbbirds did. it wont work. his is an 03. yours is an 08. the trans and override wireing is way differnt. there is no reverse wire in the headlight pod on the 08. i know that forshure, and ill bet money on it. all the trans wires are on the right side under the fender. if you look under your fender near the tranny there will be a black round top square bottom trans switch. it will have wires comeing out of it and go under the seat to a small resistor pack. as i said before it then transmits the ohm reading down the white wire to the speedo. so if your looking for the purple reverse wire your not gona find it in the head light pod.

If you are only doing the reverse override then you need to splice a pigtail into the gray/orange wire from the 16 pin harness in the headlight pod and another pigtail from the brown(ground) wire going to the accessory plug(lighter). Connect them to a toggle switch and you're good to go. Toggle "on" for the override and "off" to use the override button to scroll through the pod displays.

Thanks for the clarification guys. I was hoping for the relay fix mainly due to the fact that I've got four switchs on the pod already (hand warmer,thumb warmer, work lights, and turf mode), I guess one more won't hurt.

as i said before your gona need another relay. then it will work. if needed i can come up with a diagram and send it to you via email. i figured out how to add auto revese lights without buying the $40 backup light kit.

just a side note guys. my way as mentioned only for a switch mounted set up as thats all i wanted w/ out spending too much money. this type mod isnt for everyones desire and thats why i added kerbirds way to the sticky as well. enjoy the mod either way it works for you as its a pain in the butt to hold the button in while your tring to get unstuck backing up lol.
