02 rubicon no speedo

want to run without speedo but wont shift out of second or in reverse without shutting off and restarting

I removed headlight and bracket and shoved speedo under front fender but steam and water get to it so I guess I am asking if there is a jumperwire or smaller water proof module I can replace gauge with.
