Default 07 800 X2 rear CV Boots

I have a 2007 800 X2 I purchased new. The other day I got a stick caught up in the rear CV Boot on the inside (gearcase side).
With the help of this forum I went ahead and purchased the Lisle 30500 Boot Pliers from Amazon.com. They had tem on sale for under $9.00. My question is this: Once the axle is removed, and I am looking at the boot clamps, how in the hell do you remove the clamps with these pliers? I see little indentations on the clamp, and I think getting them off will not be as big of a problem as getting them snug. I have never seen anything like this, and I have to assume that these clamps are pre-set for just how tight they go, meaning that I have to squeeze them to get a stub into a hole. Is this correct?
I am waiting on the boot and pliers to show up, so I only have whats on the machine to look at.

I'm in the same boat as you just looking at the clamps wondering how this is going to work. I guess when the tool and boots arrive I will find out. I'm hoping someone can post up some pictures or add some advice to this thread.

The boot clamps are a non-reusable part. your boot kit should come with a new boot, grease, and new clamps.

The easiest way to get them off is with regular wire cutters (dikes).

If your kit doesn't come with new clamps, you can get them at Napa.

actually i dont know about the new bikes, but when i replaced a few on my 06' you can re use the clamps. when you see the earless clamp pliers you should be able to figure by looking where to hook them on to to squeese the clamps just a little bit and release the clamp where it hooks together and then do the same thing to put them back on. imo

Maybe so. Even still, the large and small clamps at Napa cost less than a couple bucks each. If all else, it might be a good back up plan.

Default Update

Tonight I tackled this by myself. I will have to say that the $10 I spent on the Lisle Clamp pliers were well worth it. What a piece of cake working with these clamps!!!!
The toughest part for me was getting the actual joint apart after I removed the shaft. It took me longer to get the damn C-clip apart enough to pull the joint apart. The snap ring pliers I had were just a tad too big!
If anybody is going to tackle this job, get the pliers from Lisle. Good tool, made in the USA and was under $10 from Amazon.com!

Thanks for the tip, my home made pliers did get the job too, but after some welding and heating the pliers up, was only good for one boot repair!!
