99 Mag.500 backfiring thru filter with RPM

Unhappy 99 Mag.500 backfiring thru filter with RPM
1999 Magnum 500 in remote Alaska Bush. Backfiring through the air filter with any amount of RPM. Won't run past an idle
Changed plug, drained carb, changed fuel, adusted thumb screw bottom of carb, checked air supply through filter (filter bottom wet with gas) tightened rubber hose from carb to cylinder, checked fuel filters.
Now have removed carb. Flew it back to the lodge, cleaning it. If that doesn't work:
Suspect: Timing changed somehow, Coil or CDI
Any Suggestions Wildman

Camshaft exhaust lobe worn off. Happened somewhat frequently on older 500's.

Edit- can't spell

Thanks, It may be cam, But it happened quite suddenly. We also installed a new muffler a short time ago and have not checked for possible blockage there. But it does seem like backpressure.

agreed on might be a bad cam w/ worn out lobes which will act the same way as you described.

adjust the valves and check cam lobes.
