Polaris XP 850 Belt failure
#1
I have a new XP 850 which has broken the belt after 150 kms
110kms easy work on the beach
10kms hard ground then up the beach again one small dune and a little fast stuff.
more than disapointed
HAS POLARIS GOT A PROBLEM, DID I MAKE THE WRONG CHOICE.

wondering if its just a bad belt(it does happen). did they replace it or you stuck buying another one? if thier was something out of alignment or something wrong w/ the clutches could be an issue. did the belt shred or break in half? did the belt get burned/overheated? i'm guessing it's not a bad choice as thiers tons on them out there w/ out too many issues. imo

Polaris makes there belt as strong as the ones used in there much highter powered sleds you would think a lower powered ATV would not work up a sweet for there belt system.
Here is another guy with a XP belt failer post. http://forums.atvconnection.com/pola...-my-850-a.html

90% of the time it is operator error operating in high when should be in LOW,water on belt w/o drying belt & clutches, etc, etc. The other 10% will be clutch mis-alignment,clutch break down, bad belt, etc. I have & do work on ALOT of Polaris,Kawasakis and CanAms. Replaced alot of belts on ALOT of them and the MAJORITY of the time its OPERATOR ERROR period...

The only thing I could say about that Is I have seen belts last along time on Yamaha 350 Bruins,Scramblers, Haweyes, and sleds and they have no low range to speak of.

They should not be breaking on a new machine like that though.
Polaris has said this is a brand new machine from the ground up, the first year will have some boogers they will need get worked out. Happens to most manufactures the first year of producing a brand new machine

The XP can be run up to 39mph in low. The thing that destroys most belts is going slow in high gear. In high gear you want to keep it up at a good speed and stay mostly at a good speed. With the low gear and 39mph ability in low there shouldn't be as much need to use high. See what the manual says about what is the lowest speed you should maintain in high. I'd be interested to know also.
